On Monday, December 15 at noon, the Teatro Astral opened its doors for a highly anticipated event: the pre-opening of Anastasia: The Musical, one of the major bets on Buenos Aires’ theater scene for 2026. It was not a traditional performance, but rather an event designed as the project’s official presentation, featuring exclusive previews and several surprises.

The experience began in a playful way, with a trivia game about the history of Anastasia that helped warm up the audience and set the mood among the guests. This was followed by a talk from Diana Arias, author of Imperial Loves, who spoke about the historical Anastasia, separating myth from reality and providing context about the Russian Grand Duchess whose legend inspired both the musical and its many film and stage adaptations.
One of the central moments of the event was the presentation of the creative team. We met Marcelo Rosa, the show’s director, who spoke about the challenge of bringing this international title to the local stage. Also present were Ale Ibarra, in charge of choreography; Pili Noseda, the show’s vocal coach; and Mica Fariña, associate director, who shared details about the artistic process and the work with the cast.
On the visual side, Genevieve Petitpierre and Carlos Cifani offered a preview of some of the secrets behind the costumes and set design. Without revealing too much, they made it clear that the production aims to recreate—on a grand scale—the transition from imperial Russia to Paris in the 1920s, supported by a carefully crafted aesthetic and the use of projections to accompany the different moods of the show.
During this event, one of the most eagerly awaited pieces of information was finally revealed: the full cast, which had been kept strictly under wraps until that day. Minerva Casero was introduced as Anastasia, alongside Sofía Alemán in the role of young Anastasia. Iñaki Aldao will play Dimitri, “Pichu” Straneo will be Vlad, Agustín Iannone will portray Gleb, Carolina Mainero will play Lily, and Lucila Gandolfo will take on the role of the Dowager Empress.
The ensemble—an essential element of the production—will include Joaquín Caso, Micaela Fusaro, Sol Giulietti, Lucila Muiño, Gustavo Ortiz, Verónica Pacenza, Andrés Rosso, Morena Sánchez, Santiago Sastre, Tomás Vila, and Pamela Peker, forming a stage group that promises energy and strong visual impact.
As for the technical and creative team, the production features lighting design and technical direction by Claudio Del Bianco; wig design by Feliciano San Román; projection design by Aaron Rhyne in collaboration with Broadway Media; set design by Carlos Cifani; costumes by Genevieve Petitpierre; choreography by Ale Ibarra; and vocal coaching by Pili Noseda. Press relations are handled by BMZ Comunicaciones. General production is by Raúl S. Algán, with overall direction by Marcelo Rosa.
Anastasia: The Musical features a book by Terrence McNally, music by Stephen Flaherty, and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens—the same creative team behind the original Broadway version.
The event closed on a relaxed and festive note: there was karaoke with songs from the musical, and a special 48-hour promotion was announced, offering discounted tickets with the code Anastasia25. The premiere is scheduled for May, and everything suggests it will be one of the standout productions of the theatrical year. To set the mood, the gathering ended with small musical previews that left everyone eager to see the full show—especially the fans who attended dressed for the occasion, with plenty of sparkle and crowns.
